Who am I?
I have spent most of my life in the pursuit to help others. I have routinely noted peoples needs and tried to help them achieve their goals. I started exploring medicine in middle school when I began volunteering as a Candy Striper at a local hospital. In high school, I was finally old enough to go through lifeguard training and spent the next 4 years watching over multiple neighborhood pools. While I was in college studying plant biology, I decided to get ceritifed in Wilderness First Aid and move out to the Tetons upon graduation to lead hikes. After my summer job was over, I still wasn’t sure what form of medicine I wanted to pursue so I worked as both a nursing assistant and a Pharmacy Tech IT in a very busy pharmacy in Jackson Hole (I also skied). While working in these occupations, I volunteered to help a farmer with his newly built vegetable hydroponics farm and learned about and experienced neurofeedback training from a local medical team. After 2 years, I made my decision and decided to pursue the study of naturopathic medicine in Seattle, WA. Studying naturopathic medicine would allow me to assess patients from a holistic point of view by studying from multiple perspectives on how best to treat the individual beginning with the least invasive therapies. Soon after beginning my studies, I learned that massage therapy ,a physical medicine modality, appeared to make significant improvements with regard to reducing musculoskeletal pain. I decided to take my only free summer and spend it studying massage therapies. After 5 years of studying naturopathic medicine, I graduated and spent a year in an integrative clinic as an intern. After leaving my internship, I began studying more about neurofeedback and spent two years learning under an advisor before becoming certified. I continue to learn new skills and build upon my old ones. Throughout all of my experiences in healthcare, I have had the priveledge of meeting many people where they are and helping them move forward.
For over a decade I have implemented various versions of biofeedback into my naturopathic practice to alleviate complaints. I use biofeedback to assess brain, skeletal muscle, and heart rate activity. With these assessments, I gather information to treat anxiety, attention deficits, cognitive concerns (such as memory loss, poor word finding skills, and lack of motivation), tension headaches and stress related conditions.
As my background in plant biology might suggest, I greatly enjoy using botanical medicine as a modality to help my patients feel better and move forward in their lives!
In my experience, the answers to someone’s health concerns are generally not black and white but have more to do with the entirety of the person experiencing the concerns. I find that listening to the patient and asking them questions to discover the cause of the concern generally puts us on a successful toward ameliorating the complaint.
